MESA, Ariz. -- A 3-month-old girl who was
left in a sweltering parked sport utility vehicle for
nearly two hours died Friday morning, officials said.
Amberlee Elizabeth Brown was apparently left in
the SUV accidentally Thursday afternoon by her father,
who had run errands and forgot about the baby when he
returned home, officials said.
Police and firefighters were called to the home
in Chandler just after 3 p.m. Thursday and found the
baby, who officials said had a core temperature of 109
degrees, said Sgt. Rick Griner, a police spokesman.
Amberlee died Friday morning at Banner Good
Samaritan Hospital. Griner said the case is still under
investigation.
He identified the baby's parents as Kyle and
Elizabeth Brown, both 30.
"This had to have been an accident," neighbor
Darlene Dowell said, describing the family as very nice
people. "I can't imagine it another way."
Police said the baby is one of five children in
the home and they don't know why no one else noticed her
missing.
