BAKERSFIELD - Purple ribbons
around town this month are a reminder for parents never to leave
their children unattended in hot cars.
The organization “For Your Kids Sake” has designated the month of
August as National Purple Ribbon month to educate and increase
awareness of Kaitlyn's Law.
Kaitlyn's law went into effect in 2002 and makes it an offense to
leave a child 6 years or younger unattended in a car without
supervision of someone who is at least 12.
The law was named after 6-month-old Kaitlyn Russell who died
after she was forgotten in her babysitter's van.
The girl’s mother and grandmother started the organization “For
Your Kids Sake”. Kaitlyn's grandmother wants parents to be informed
about the law and wants anyone who sees a child left alone in a car
to take action
