San Jose Baby Safe After Kidnapping

(KCBS)—A one-year-old San Jose girl is back home safe after a brief kidnapping Saturday morning that sent police into high alert.

Police Sgt. Steve Dixon told KCBS the little girl was in the back seat of a vehicle that had been stolen out of a driveway around 7 a.m.

Sgt. Dixon said that a woman was warming up her car outside her home on Tampa Way in East San Jose when she placed her one year old baby in a blanket inside the car as she prepared to take her to child care.

“The mother returned to the house and while gone, someone came up and unfortunately got into the car and drove with the car and the little baby inside,” said Sgt. Dixon.

Several officers searched for the vehicle and the department’s helicopter was called into service.

The baby was located about 90-minutes later.

”Obviously it's never a good idea to leave a small child in a car. You can see how these things can happen very, very quickly.” Sgt. Dixon said.
