A 2-year-old Randolph boy was rescued unharmed last night from the back seat of his father's car after it was stolen as his dad shopped at a Roslindale convenience store, police said.
``I don't think the person who stole the car had any idea the child was inside the vehicle,'' said officer Cliff Connolly, a spokesman for Boston police. The boy and the abandoned 1998 black Nissan were found at Eliot and Centre streets in Jamaica Plain about 45 minutes after the 5:30 p.m. theft on Cummins Highway.
``The child was checked over by emergency medical staff and found to be fine,'' said Connolly, who declined to release the family's name.
He said the tot was buckled into a child's car seat. It was not immediately clear whether his father left the keys in the vehicle. No arrests had been made as of early last night and Connolly could not say if the boy's father would face charges.
