FREDERICK, Md.
Frederick County authorities on Friday were investigating the death of a 5-month-old boy who apparently was left unattended in a car for several hours in 80-plus-degree heat.
The victim, Isaiah Brown, was the son of Ralph C. Brown Jr., a member of Frederick County's social services advisory board, and the grandson of Frederick City Alderman Bill Hall.
"It was a tragic accident," Hall said. "The family is devastated right now. It's just unexplainable."
Investigators from the county sheriff's office hoped to learn from the state medical examiner's office what caused the infant's death, Cpl. Jennifer Bailey said.
Bailey said the boy's father called 911 Thursday about 2:30 p.m. He told police Isaiah had been left alone in a vehicle outside the family's home in the Spring Ridge subdivision just east of Frederick.
"The temperature in the car was quite high - 125 degrees," Frederick County State's Attorney Scott Rolle said.
Rolle said he plans to discuss the case with investigators on Monday.
"I'm not rushing to judgment," Rolle said. "I want to get all the information I possibly can have before a decision is made about whether to place criminal charges."
Because of Ralph Brown's involvement with Frederick County social services, Montgomery County social services representatives will assist with the investigation, Bailey said.
The boy's mother, Denise Hall-Brown, an insurance agent, is a trustee of the Community Foundation of Frederick and recently served on the committee that helped with the selection of a District Court judge.
Isaiah was the youngest of the couple's four sons.
