LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. (AP) -- A car with a 16-month-old child inside was stolen from outside a convenience store this morning, then recovered about an hour later, police said.

The child was unharmed, said Officer Jim Green of the Lee's Summit Police Department.

Green said a man had stopped at the convenience store about 9:24 a.m., leaving the child in the vehicle while he went inside.

He said someone got into the car and drove off.

Police issued an "Amber Alert" and began an intensive search.

They found the car, with the child in it, about 10:24 a.m.

The car was abandoned behind a business about two miles away from the convenience store, Green said.

The car thief was still being sought.
