An 11-day-old child was found safe after the car in which he was sitting was stolen Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. on Broad Street, NewsChannel 4 reported.

Police said that a 1994 white Chrysler LeBaron was stolen outside of a church. NewsChannel 4 reported that the mother, Latasha Anderson, left the child inside the car as she was dropping off her 2-year-old daughter for day care at the Broad Street Presbyterian Church.

Police found the abandoned car a few minutes later a couple of blocks away with the infant inside. The child, named Jessie, was unharmed and asleep in his carseat.

More than 20 patrol cars were dispatched to the Broad Street area after Anderson called 911. About 17 minutes later, a patrol sergeant inquired about issuing an Amber Alert. But four minutes later, before detectives can issue the alert, the car and baby were found, NewsChannel 4's Nancy Burton reported.

No arrests have been made. Police said the man who stole the car ran from the scene after abandoning the car.
