An Akron mother has been charged with child endangering after police say she left her 1-year-old daughter alone in a car, which a thief stole while the woman went inside her home.
Akron police recovered the car about an hour later and found the child unharmed.
Christina A. Gall, 24, of Cree Avenue, was charged with child endangering in Akron Municipal Court. She is due in court Wednesday to answer the misdemeanor charge.
In this case, child endangering is a first-degree misdemeanor carrying a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Gall told police on Wednesday afternoon that her daughter, Larie A. Thomas-Gall, was asleep in her car seat when they pulled into the driveway of their home.
Gall said she left the 1995 Dodge Neon idling and the child in the back seat while she went inside to get another daughter.
Within minutes, someone drove off with the car and the child. Gall contacted police, who began a search for the vehicle.
The car was found three miles away, abandoned near Rosemary Boulevard. The infant was still buckled in her seat. She was returned to her mother.
The car thief has not been identified. Anyone with information may call Akron police at 330-375-2490.
