TOLEDO, Ohio, 2:39 p.m. EDT September 30, 2001 -- A man faces arraignment Monday in Toledo on charges that he stole a car with a 5-month-old baby strapped inside.
The baby girl, Tyra Robinson, was turned over to county authorities early Saturday morning -- hours after the Friday night theft. She was returned to her mother.
Charles Jerrell Wells, 31, of Toledo, faces one count each of kidnapping, vehicle theft and drug possession.
Officers staked out the stolen car Saturday afternoon at an apartment building after getting a tip.
Wells is jailed without bond.
The baby's mother, 16-year-old Shyra Forille, said that she was on her way to go bowling Friday. She said that she stepped out of her car with the engine running to ring her cousin's doorbell. A man forced two teenage passengers out of the car and drove off.
