Mother In Car Backs Over Child

Boy, 5, In Serious Condition

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A 5-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital Thursday after being accidentally run over by his mother in Oklahoma City.

The accident happened at the An-Son car at 1635 N.W. 23rd St.

The mother was at the car wash with her two young children, police said.

She was washing the car, and the two children were out of the vehicle, Sgt. Kevin Sutherland of the Oklahoma City Police Department said.

"We're not sure how it happened," Sutherland said. "The car slipped into reverse, and when she stepped on the accelerator, the car lunged backward, running over one of the children."

The boy was listed in serious condition Thursday evening. The other child, who is 8, was not seriously injured.
