Hot conditions can be dangerous. Two people went to York Hospital Friday for heat-related illness, according to a hospital spokesman. Both were treated and released,

On Thursday, a 19-month-old girl was treated for heat exhaustion at York Hospital after being left in a parked car.

Her father, James Christopher Snyder of Newberry Township, left his child alone in a car during the heat of the day, police said.

Northern York County Regional Police arrested Snyder at the North Gate Shopping Center in Manchester Township.

Snyder is in York County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail. He is charged with recklessly endangering another person, endangering the welfare of children and leaving an unattended child in a motor vehicle.

When arrested, Snyder asked if he would receive a big fine for his actions, Lt. Mark Bentzel said.

“You should not have to tell people not to leave your child in the car on a hot day like yesterday,” Bentzel said Friday.

Police arrested Snyder after receiving a call from an individual who had noticed the child in the car. Snyder was in the parking lot of Wendy’s.

A thermometer along Route 30 read 107 degrees, Bentzel said.

Snyder had cracked the passenger-side window of his coupe about 3 inches. The infant may have been left up to 20 minutes by herself, belted in a rear car seat, Bentzel said. P> Since the child’s release from the hospital, she has been turned over to the custody of another family member, he said.

“In this case, I have no idea what another 10 or 15 minutes could have done to this child,” Bentzel said.
