18-Month Old Found Alone in Car, Newport News Police Charge Grafton Woman

Newport News police have charged a Grafton mother with contributing to the delinquency of a minor after they say they found her 18-month old daughter unattended and asleep in a car.

According to police, they were called to the parking lot of the Roses Department store at 605 New Market Drive around 12:40pm Thursday on a report of a child left alone in an unattended vehicle.

Police say several minutes after they arrived, 44-year old Mandylee Miller of the 200 block of West Woodland Drive in Grafton walked up to authorities and identified herself as the girl's mother.

Miller was subsequently arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The child was not injured, and was released by Child Protective Services into the custody of the father.
