He was in critical condition at Children's Hospital in Seattle. It's not known yet if he'll survive.

Sgt. John Urquhart said the father was baby-sitting four kids Monday afternoon. When he checked on them he discovered the boy had wandered away.

The boy apparently climbed in the closed car and was overcome by the heat, which hovered around 80 degrees. He was found about an hour later, unconscious in his car seat.

The father placed him in a bathtub to cool down before medics arrived.

The boy was found in the sedan.

Police advise parents to keep cars locked at all times, and to keep a closer eye on children.

They said they do not expect to file any charges against the father.

MAPLE VALLEY -- A 2-year-old boy was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center on Monday after his father found him locked inside a sweltering car and losing consciousness.

King County sheriff's deputies responded to a residence in the 23400 block of Southeast 246th Street in Maple Valley about 4:15 p.m., shortly after the toddler's father called 911, said sheriff's spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart.

When deputies and emergency workers arrived, the man had placed his son in a bathtub to bring the boy's body temperature down. Urquhart said the boy's condition possibly was life threatening, but no further information was available from the hospital.

The man told deputies he believed his son had been in the car for about an hour. The air temperature was about 78 degrees in Maple Valley when the boy was discovered.

It was unclear Monday how the boy ended up in the car or if the father knew his son was in the car before he found him there, Urquhart said.

Deputies are investigating.
