Fact Sheet: 4 R Kids Sake

4 R Kids Sake is an national organization that strives in making sure that children do not die due to preventable injuries. Their mission statement is to "Protect our children from preventable injuries and death in and around cars through: Awareness, Education, Legislation and Prevention." Their goal is to spread the message and assist in bringing about a greater awareness of the tragedies that can and do occur in and around cars. 4 R Kids SakeTM is making sure that people know how important it is to NEVER leave a child unattended in a car!

 

·         4 R Kids Sake was founded in September 2000 and is headquartered in Corona, California.

·         Incorporated as a California non-profit organization on October 23, 2000.

·         4 R Kids Sake created and maintains a nationwide statistical database to track the injuries resulting from children being    left unattended in and around vehicles.

·         4 R Kids Sake participated and provided input at meetings of a statewide expert panel, consisting of child advocacy groups, law enforcement, healthcare and government agencies from across the state, that was looking into this issue.

·         4 R Kids Sake provides flyers and brochures to schools, physician offices, hospitals and medical facilities, businesses and other places parents might see them. Information is also available on the website www.4rkidssake.org.

·         4 R Kids Sake distributes store-front posters and warning signs, license plate frames, bumper stickers and magnetic signs to residents and businesses throughout the United States to raise awareness on the issue.

·         4 R Kids Sake provides speakers for seminars and conferences throughout the United States addressing the important issues of never leaving a child unattended in and around cars.

·         4 R Kids Sake actively participated in the passage of SB255, the "Unattended Child in Motor Vehicle Safety Act." On October 12, 2001, Governor Gray Davis signed the bill into law. The law became effective on January 1, 2002 and is known and cited as "Kaitlyn's Law" in memory of the co-founder Tammy Russell's daughter.

·         4 R Kids Sake Co-Founders, Tammy Russell and Laura Petersen, are NHTSA Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians

·         Recipients of several awards including the Kierra Harrison Foundation –Child Advocates Award, American Academy of Pediatrics Injury Prevention Program Award, Riverside County Injury Prevention – Champion for Children Award, Soroptomist International of Corona – Women of Distinction – Health, Soroptomist International Baldy View, Chino and Foothills "Have a Heart Award - Education"

·         4 R Kids Sake is supported and endorsed by many fire and law enforcement agencies across the United States as well as many organizations, businesses and individuals.
