Can One Magnetic Sign Make the Difference?
A letter to Kaitlyn's Great Grandmother

Dear Fern,

My initial goal upon receiving the magnetic sign, was to split the duties of the sign, by displaying it on the door of my work vehicle during the week, and on my classic 57 Chevy Belair during the weekend, this in an attempt to get as much exposure as possible.

Talk about support from my family, as both my wife Birdie and my daughter Victoria, have also volunteered their vehicles, and too display this "one" sign on their door, on their travels to and from work (more exposure).

This simple gesture in turn gave me an idea. If I could only find additional volunteers to place this "one" sign on their vehicles, on their travels to and from work, what a positive impact it would be in spreading the word "NEVERleave a child unattended in a car," and the "4 R Kids Sake" cause.

As the hot summer months of June, July and August are closely approaching, I decided to take action, beginning a crusade of my own, beginning on May 7th.

My crusade, with the help of my fellow co-workers here at AMWAY/NUTRILITE, was to display this "one" magnetic sign, for one day only, on as many different vehicles, on their travels from work to home and back, until the end of August.

This is an attempt to reach out to as many people, families, neighborhoods and cities, of the dangers of leaving a child unattended in a car and hyperthermia (the 4 R Kids Sake cause), this in memory of your dear beloved Granddaughter "Kaitlyn" and all of the other children lost to this type of preventable tragedy.

Progress report, as to the travels of this "one" magnetic sign.

Thus far, ten different driver's, on ten different vehicles, covering the cities of La Mirada, Buena Park, Bellflower, Anaheim Hills, Whittier, Temecula, Anaheim, Laguna Beach, Garden Grove, Riverside and countless cities between work and home (the list of volunteers continues to grow.)

I wish I had numbers for the amount of people viewing the sign, although I know for sure, that 10 families and their neighborhoods have. Must not forget the countless individuals without any choice in the matter, stuck in traffic (thank you rush hour).

As for individuals contributing to the crusade, a special Thank You to my fellow co-workers. . .

Mr. Edward Kahler: Who made over 250 copies of the flyer, placing them in the "Family Envelope," a newsletter for St. Phillips Catholic School in Fullerton.

Mr. Athula Siriwardena: Who also requested and received copies of the flyers to be placed on the windows of a couple of Day Care facilities in Riverside, where his wife works and/or owns.

As you can see, everything is up and running, and with God's help, we can hopefully help end these preventable tragedies and have "Kaitlyn's Law" become a reality.

Your Church Family Member and Friend,

Johnny Rodriguez
