Save A Child!

Never leave a child in a car without appropriate supervision--
What can happen in seconds:
  • You can become distracted and forget the child is in the car--
yes it has happened--ending in heat stroke and death.
  • Carjacking with child in the car
  • Kidnapping
  • Car igniting into flames
  • Car shifted into gear by unrestrained child, injuring themselves and bystanders
  • Injuries from automatic windows

  • Please do not forget your precious cargo in the back seat--
There have been many cases of a parent or caregiver "forgetting" they had a child with them.
  • Put the child's diaper bag or backpack in the front passenger seat with your personal items you will be taking out with you.
  • May we suggest tying a ribbon to your steering wheel (making sure it is placed in a location that will not interfere with driving), key chain, car door handle or anywhere you will see it to remind you when exiting the car.
  • Attach the ribbon to the child's car seat and every time the child is buckled in the seat remove the ribbon and attached to one of the locations mentioned above, then replace the ribbon to car seat after you take the child out. Be sure to never leave the ribbon attached to the car seat when it is occupied by a child.
  • We are working towards a future where auto manufacturers will install a warning system helping to remind of a child's presence in the car.

  • Always keep cars locked and keys out of reach of children--
Children have become trapped inside the passenger compartment and trunk after gaining access from an unlocked vehicle or obtaining the keys.
  • Teach children not to play in vehicles and if a friend is playing in a vehicle to tell an adult.
  • Teach children how to get out of a vehicle and trunk--contact your auto manufacturer to get a trunk release installed.
  • If a child is missing check vehicles right away.
  • Be aware of children around a vehicle before backing up--
Many children are injured and/or die after being hit by a car when the driver was unaware and unable to see the child was there.
  • Before getting into your car check to see where your children are- that they haven't followed you out of the house unknowingly.
  • If they are outside be sure you can see them at all times and that they are a safe distance away.
  • Educate children to never play behind or run behind parked vehicles and to check if car is running or occupied before passing a driveway.
  • Prevention through awareness--
  • Spread our message on to others by your voice or one of our flyers.
  • If you see a child left unattended in a vehicle, please wait for the caregiver and inform them of the dangers and please call 911 if you feel the child is in danger, you just may be saving a life.
  • Hand flyers out at mothers groups, preschools, work, to friends and family or anywhere you feel they may benefit.
  • Support Legislation--
  • Write letters of support to your local legislators supporting laws against children being left in cars.
  • Contact 4 R Kids Sake--
